You are the CEO of your company. The way you dress, talk, walk and your manners project power with perception and it only takes a few seconds to be sized up. Your inability to handle yourself as expected could be costly and no one will tell you why you didn’t get the sale or why your services will never be considered for future business. It may not be fair, but others equate bad manners and poor business image with incompetence.
Here are a few tips to enhance your business image:
1. Your clothes must fit properly, be clean, and neatly pressed. Shoes must be shined and clean.
2. You must have your WMYD (what makes you different) statement. You must know 10 things that make you different from your competitor. Why should your company get the business instead of another company?
3. You must convince others of your value. You must be confident and have good vocal tone.
4. Business cards must stand out and be professional. Your cards should be on good quality stock paper and always keep a few in a nice card holder for handouts.
5. Always establish eye contact in meeting client and offer firm handshake. Web to web with 2-3 pumps.
6. When conversing, listen attentively. Don’t interrupt, be a know it all, talk too much and brag. These behaviors will not make a favorable impression.
7. Be honest in all business deals. Don’t mislead client just to get their business.
8. Keep your promises. Do what you say you will do in a timely manner.
9. Follow up with clients to ensure that they are satisfied with your services or products.
10. Be genuinely interested in making your client happy and they will be your best source of advertisement for future business.
By following the tips above, you will project a more polished and professional business image. Be recognized amongst your competitors. It is important that your business image speaks well of you to be perceived favorably in today’s business world.
